What vegetarian food can you get in a chinese restaurant?

I don't eat eggs or mushrooms. What other vegetarian food can you get in a chinese restaurant. Apaart from plain boiled rice do they do any other plain stuff

  1. Ask them when you are there. I would think they could easily make a vegetarian sweet and sour dish. An all pea pod dish with sauce to go over rice. I bet they chef could be very creative.
  2. You have to go to the right chinese restaurant, not all of them serve tofu or serve it right. I had this one tofu dish at my favorite chinese place and it was like fried tofu with vegetables over rice. It had some kind of teriyaki sauce or something - it wasn't the usual gross way that some chinese restuarants serve tofu - it's sooo good. What I always do is ask them for something that is custom ordered that suits me. Like the mixed vegetables with cashews instead of the chicken cashew.

  5. Each restaurant will vary, wait til you go and check the menu, it will list veggie dishes and what is in them.
  6. A lot of Chinese restaurants offer vegetarian entrees under a seperate section of the menu. Some of the best choices would include Vegetable Lo-Mein (ask if they have eggs or mushrooms- they usually don't), and vegetable dishes that feature Bok Choy. You could probably ask for Bok Choy, Baby Bok Choy or even Celery Cabbage (sometimes called Chinese cabbage), stir-fried in whatever sauce you like. My mom orders Eggplant with Garlic Sauce from our local place, if there's a choice like that. You basically just have to go and see what they have at your local places... the point is, as long as you're polite, most places will be happy to create a dish for you.
  7. All the vegetables are vegetarian,and there are many.A much more varied choice than British.Just tell them you dont eat flesh or dairy products.
  8. You'll have to check out their menus. Most of them will have many different vegetarian items. Also, most will accommodate your wants---leave out the mushrooms, no eggs. My local chinese restaurant has tofu and veggies. I'm not a big fan of tofu, but this is excellent! I also order the veggies without mushrooms. I think it just depends on the restaurant.
  9. Chinese restaurants tend to have quite a lot for vegetarians. Most dishes ( mein, stir fry, rice, sweet and sour etc) some in vegetable as well as all the meat options. Many Chinese and Thai places do a variety of tofu dishes, but they usually call it 'bean curd'. Lots of people are put off trying tofu as if it's not cooked carefully, it turns to rubber. In my experience, most Chinese restaurants do a good job of it. If you don't see anything on the menu you fancy, you could ask them for something particular, most will try to accommodate you.
  10. I was in a chinese Restaurant. I was very deighted to find on their progran " fried eggplant, cut in strips. It was served over steamed rice.Also had a delicious house sauce that make the meal quit tasty. Their was enough meal for you to pack up and enjoy thr next day
  11. If ingredients and details of how they are cooked are listed, read them, if not, ask the waiter how it's cooked and what's in it. Chances are the waiters have served enough food to know what's in there, what's popular, and what to recommend. If they don't know enough English and you don't know enough or any Chinese, ask them if they could get another waiter to explain to you what's in the food or meal you're interested in, there's always an Asian-American working at one of these places. =). If you ever get tofu (which in most dishes I don't like), don't be afraid of it! There's really no such thing as being undercooked for it because bean curd (the english translation of the mandarin word "dou-fu"/tofu, dou = bean, fu = curd/curdy substance) comes in packages already made. It's supposed to be soft and rippable on the inside (sometimes outside depending whether or not the dish is made with soft, regular, or firm tofu).
  12. I have been a vegetarian sence I was 9 and now I'm 25 so I can tell you anything you need to know on that. Your best and my favorite would be bean curd and vegtables.Its fried tofu with vegetables and a brown sauce.get rice on the side a crispy spring roll and your good to go!!!!
  13. Get anything that has a picture of the Buddha next to it or says "Buddha's". Those items are vegetarian.

  15. DUDE I AM A VEGETARIAN AND I LIVE IN CHINA PERMANENTLY I ONLY EAT (CHIN CHAI CHOW FAN)THATS VEGETABLE FRIED RICE OR (CHIN CHAI CHOW MEIN) THATS VEGETABLE NOODLES AND THATS ALL YOU GET HERE IN CHINA.
  16. Sadly, most chinese restaurants use some sort of animal product in everything they cook. Chicken broth is used in most of the noodle dishes etc. Get the steamed mixed veggies and mix with some soy sauce.
  17. any decent restaurant will do tofu,its fried and seasoned soya beancurd and is truly gorgeous too.that is generally the vegan staple in a chinese restaurant.vegetarian spring rolls may also be found i think, these are crisp and deep fried cylindrical pastries filled with vegetables. often, green vegetables anmd carrots are available. also they eat fruit, especially lychees.You can also try yasai gyoza, or yasai cha han. yasai cha han is a concoction of veg with rice and its easy. gyoza are little dumplings full of seaweed and onion..lovely
  18. try tofu or some of their broths. Each is different though. Just ask the waiter and if its a good restaurant he will tell ya.
