Why do vegetarians and vegans tend to be the most uptight people on Yahoo Answers?
Seriously, they seem to give more thumbs-down and report more answers than any other group of people I've seen on here. Does eating like a vegetarian make you grouchy? Or do grouchy people tend to become vegetarians?

- vegans are scary. my sister is one
- They want some meat, I would be a prick too.
- Generalize much? I don't give thumbs down unless the answer is idiotic or offensive.
- lack of meat ?
- Clearly you haven't spent much time on the Religion and Spirituality board...
- Some say the religious ppl are the worst. Or the political ones. It might be partly becuase the ppl who feel strongly about vegetarian, vegan diets, are the ones answering the question. The reasonable, nice vegans/vegetarians, aren't on here asnwering. There's fanatical, bad mannered ppl in any group.
- probably because people keep posting here to antagonise them... like yourself. nice avatar btw, i love G.I.T.S
- I don't think you've checked out many other categories. Look into the Politics & Government section, or the Sports categories, and you'll see some real rancor. Thanks for sharing your opinion.
- The same reason some meat eaters tend to get a little defensive if someone mentions that they are a vegetarian. Just as many vegetarians (But not all, or even most) harass meat eaters, vegetarians are used to being harassed about their food choices, so when they come on yahoo answers, they might overreact to any kind of contradiction to their lifestyle, because they've had it challenged so many times before. Although, obviously, this is not an excuse for them to do, I'm only giving what I think is the reason.
- Mostly because of people like you.
- I HAVE looked at other categories. I have to say, that even before I made my presence known here, this one did by far seem to be the worst. Much worse than the Law Enforcement & Police section, or the Lesbian/Gay section, or the Religion & Spirituality section, or the Dogs section. I firmly believe that the amino acid imbalance caused by vegetarian diets alters their personality, and the lack of protein, vitamins and minerals in their diets causes such irritability.
- ....someone sounds a little ticked off, eh? I'm a pretty laid back vegan, take THAT lame generalizations :D
- Actually, other cultures and groups is slightly worse. It's full of people insulting other races, while simultaneously calling everybody else "racist". And then they all report each other. On yahoo answers, hypocrisy and stupidity are pretty much system wide.
- Vegans and vegetarians typically have strong core beliefs that is why they made the effort to change the way they eat every day. When somebody tries to pass off their bad advice people tend to give thumbs down because they don't think it is a good answer and they probably want the question asker to know that they don't with the response. Vegetarianism is typically a moral path so when people attack it vegetarians naturally get offended. How much do you know about the food you eat?
- This is what's called the logical fallacy of an either/or dilemma. Does eating like a vegetarian make you grouchy or do grouchy people become vegetarians? Well, if those are my only two options… neither. It's because it's hard to tell the difference between a troll and someone who is just ignorant. I haven't seen as many questions in most other sections that are written solely for the purpose of riling up the members of the board. There are a lot of trolls in this section, so thank them for continuously harassing the vegetarians here. Anyway, someone gave me a thumbs down for saying I'd been a vegetarian for seven years. I wouldn't rush to say only the veg*ns are giving thumbs down.
- IMHO, I would venture to say that people whose capacity for discriminatory thought has not been destroyed by eating cr@p tend to be vegetarians and/or vegans. To borrow a saying from computer programmers, "garbage in, garbage out." Therefore, perhaps vegetarians have less of a "whatever" attitude than you do, because they actually enjoy the sensation of thinking for themselves, even if their dietary beliefs aren't "popular". If you equate having an opinion, thinking for oneself, and not having an intellectual "slacker" outlook with being uptight, grouchy or whatever, it's your prerogative to call it whatever you want. Opinions are similar to that well-known bodily orifice in that everybody "has one" , vegetarians and carnivores alike. If you're going to generalize about or "profile" vegetarians or vegans, sorry, can't help you. Some people see the world in black and white, others see shades of gray. BTW, what were your "research methods" which led you to conclude that vegans/vegetarians were more likely to give "thumbs down" or report people? You must have dedicated a large chunk of you life to gathering and reporting these "statistics". Are you doing a doctoral dissertation? In case you're interested, I'm currently a lacto-ovo vegetarian (did you even know there's more than one kind?) but I've NEVER attempted to have anybody's question deleted, because even some of us "grouchy, uptight" vegetarians believe in the First Amendment. Who'd a thunk it??? Furthermore, I'm not always a vegetarian. I may not be one next year or even next month, if I decide to change my eating habits. If you saw me give a "thumbs down" to someone when I was NOT in one of my vegetarian phases (I have done so, BTW) I guess it would kind of shoot down your theory that all the vegans/vegetarians out there have "cornered the market" on giving thumbs down to people on Yahoo! Answers, now wouldn't it????
- How do you know who is giving thumbs downs and reporting answers? There's no way for you to know that. And maybe you're getting thumbs downs and reportings because you are the one with the problem. Ever think of that?
- I don't know. Does eating meat make you jump to narrow minded conclusions? There are some meat eaters who have posted in this forum for years, and everything they write is complaining about vegetarians. That seems pretty uptight if you ask me.
- Why are omnivores so uptight? Please do not generalize. Not all vegans and vegetarians are the same, just like not all omnivores are the same.
- LMAO I am vegan and I found this question hilarious. Idk if that is a grouchy thing. I dont think it is. I havent noticed that veg people are more "grouchy"... I guess I don't pay attention... I only give a thumbs down to people that call people derogatory names or give false info. If that is what your talking about, then I would blame other people for the thumbs down. If there is some kinda of rebellion against omnivores I will give the rebels a thumbs down. Its based on personal choice. Just because one person's opinion is more educated than the other, doesn't mean its not a fair opinion. However facts presented must be true. =)
- I guess we are as grouchy as anyone in the Sports Forum reading questions about embroidery. This forum is intented for people interested in vegetarianism and every time someone trolls into to make a ridiculous point, it's a waste of time. If someone decides to write a question challenging vegetarians in a respectful way I don't mind it. Now a question, Does eating [like a meat eater] make you troll? :)
- It's because some people don't come to the section to contribute but just want to antagonize us for being vegetarians/vegans. We don't mind if you're a meat-eater and is willing to actively contribute to the section but when a meat-eater comes and starts going on about "how good meat is", that's when the thumbs down's and the reporting of question's starts.
- Apparently you've never visited the Religion & Spirituality or Politics boards, then. Heh! People here tend to thumb-down the blatant trolls, who are trying to do nothing but rile up people who don't eat meat. Just so, the trolls also thumb-down a lot of valid answers on here, simply because they come from vegetarians. Welcome to the internet.
- Sometimes I come on here without having my morning cup of coffee. It causes a raucous to say in the least.
- When it gets boring in here (believe me, it does happen), I go to the Religion & Spirituality forum for some excitement (i.e., confrontation, mischief, a good laugh at the fundies, etc.) - no, I can't agree with you at all about the V&V forum - the fundies in the R&S forum are the thumbs-downiest, reportingest, bunch of ornery critters in the universe. Religion makes you grouchy. (Or grouchiness makes you religious?) I've only reported questions/answers in here that have been genuinely reportable - i.e., really nasty insults or abuse, spamming (like the one who comes in and mindlessly advertises Nike or Adidas or whatever), or rants (not even a trace of a question). Which means to say that, on average, I've probably made one report per month, if that. Reporting is a last resort. Thumbs-down? Yeah, I'm happy to say that I'm "guilty" of that, Thumbs-up and thumbs-down are there for a purpose - to be used. (But, if you feel squeamish about using them, then just don't use them - simple as that - other people will use them, even if you don't.) However, I don't automatically give every non-veg*n a TD, nor every veg*n a TU - strange as that may seem to you. I've given plenty of TDs to veg*ns too, if I think their answer is giving false or misleading advice or is insulting or offensive or adds nothing constructive to the discussion or is so badly written that it is unintelligible, and conversely, I've given plenty of TUs to non-veg*ns if their answers have been useful, thoughtful, balanced, helpful, constructive, non-judgmental, etc. (That does happen once in a blue moon too.) I've even given TUs twice this week to two of the current batch of Trolls - when they accidentally gave good answers (shock! horror!).
