Vegetarian food to serve at a party?

I'm having my 18th birthday party in a few weeks and have no idea what to serve as far as food. I'm a vegetarian, as well as a few of my friends. I want to serve food that everyone will eat, vegetarians as well as people who are not vegetarians. So far the only thing I have on the list is Penne A la Vodka. What else can I serve? AND what do you like to eat when you go to a party (remember, needs to be vegertarian). Thanks in advance.

  1. Hummus with pita bread to dip is always great. Also, there are soooo many great Lebanese dishes that are tasty and vegetarian! Tabbouli (or tabbouleh, depending on who you ask) is very yummy, here's a video about it: http://www.5min.com/Video/How-to-Prepare-Lebanese-Food-with-Chef-Philippe-Massoud-at-ilili-83477158 He also shows Baba Ghanoush, which is also really yummy! And Falafel is good, too: http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-make-falafel There's a ton more Lebanese dishes out there, but those are the most popular and they're vegetarian. In searching you may find that alot of them use eggplant. Hope this helps!
  2. There's so many options and I'll just throw a bunch of ideas at you for your consideration: Have a great olive, cheese, and raw vegetable tray, cracker, breadsticks Black beans and rice with fried plantains http://www.recipezaar.com/Victors-Cafe-52-Cuban-Black-Beans-and-Rice-285323 Eggplant parmesan Baked ziti or lasagna Here's a fabulous recipe for "meatballs" These are loved by meat eaters, too. You can have them cooking in a crock pot with a sweet and sour sauce or a tomato sauce and have rolls or serve it with a hot pasta dish. http://www.recipezaar.com/Vegetarian-meatballs-11028 tobouli salad is always nice and tomatoes and parsley are at their freshest right now I love the colors and flavors in a bean salad with black beans, dark red kidney beans and corn--I make a couple of different recipes, one is a little spicy/sweet and the other is more of a vinagrette/cilantro flavor. Here's one that I have heard is wonderful but i haven't tried it yet: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Best-Ever-Texas-Caviar/Detail.aspx Make a great pasta salad with chopped spinach, lemon juice, red wine venegar, oil, salt pepper, basil , cherry tomatoes, nuts(pine nuts are great but others are too) or seeds like sunflower seeds Polenta(my favorite!)---Slowly mix one cup of coarse cornmeal in 4 cups of cold water. Stir in 1 teasp salt. Put it on med high heat and stir frequently so it doesn't clump. When it comes to boil, turn heat down and stir constantly for about 15 min or until very, very thick. Remove from heat and pour into a greased loaf pan. Chill and slice, spritz with oil spray and fry or grill. Note: before pouring into loaf pan, you can add things you like--grated cheese, herbs, cooked wild rice, whatever. It is delicious hot or room temp. I'd like to see fresh cut seasonal fruit Desserts--really good homemade ones and hot coffee at the end of the dinner or party is always welcome, too! Happy birthday and have fun!
  3. 7 layer dip!!!!
  4. Honestly, I think the best thing as like party snacks are cucumber sandwiches, they're easy to make and delicious and so far everyone that i know that has tried them has asked for seconds, also try and add a personal twist (maybe a special sauce or something). Happy B-Day! Stay Veg!!!
