How do vegetarians stop themselves from losing too much weight?
I've just became a vegetarian and I'm afraid my weight will just drop and I won't be able to gain weight without eating meat again. But my question is how do vegetarians stop themselves from losing too much weight if they only eat veg (I know junk food and some vegetarians eat milk, cheese and eggs) but even still what do they do to stop their weight plummeting?

- its called carbohydrate
- well even vegetales and every other prduct that doesn't have meat has calories.as long as you eat regularly you don't have to worry.
- When I was trying to eat ultra healthy I had the same concern I did not want to lose weight. I took ensure and booste meal replacements in between meals to add calories to my diet.
- Well since I went vegetarian I've tried (and suceeded) to put on weight, there are a lot of fattening foods that are suitable and it's just about eating the right amount.
- As a strict vegetarian (I don't eat eggs or consume milk) I find it easy to just maintain my weight, it doesn't really plummet! You can still eat chips, fries, chocolate, candy, anything really, excepting of course meat and fish, depending on how strict you are. Really, being a vegetarian will not mean your weight plummets! So long as you have a healthy, balanced veggie diet you'll be fine.
- Quite honestly, all the vegetarians I know are overweight. Watch those carbs!
- actually a lot of vegetarians gain weight I know it seems like it should be the opposite but there aren't that many skinny or underweight vegetarians
- umm.... eat. bagels, cheese, pasta, hmm... i would try and explain it to you but i think you are placing vegetarians and salad in the same category. i think you need to look more into food and see how much there is and how much of it can be eaten without meat or even with meat substitutes. veggie burgers are delicious, pasta is amazing, grilled cheese, cereal, there are tons of things which are both fatty, and full of calories... so fill up.
- Nuts! Nuts are high in mono-and poly-unsaturated fats. (Roughly 50% for most nuts) Try to stay away from the ones with high amounts of saturated fats. They are also high in protein which helps conserve muscle so you don't waste away. Beans and lentils are also high in protein. Also, try to make sure you're getting enough vitamins in your diet, as some essential vitamins can only be found in animal proteins eg. B-12 Meat is the best source of it but you can get it from other sources such as milk and cheese. Or vitamin supliments if you want to go the artificial route. Hope this helps, best of luck with the meat fast!
- They educate them selves on what foods they eat contain for nutrition. While it's true that animals do produce a great amount of fats in the foods produced from them. The Vegetable kingdom probably produces just as much or if not more Vegetable derived fats. Whatever lifestyle you choose, it is always very important to do the research first so you're always eating a well balanced and healthy diet.
- I became a vegetarian and then vegan and my weight didn't shift at all in the process. Simply put, you just have to replace the calories that you ate before as meat with other calories, it's that simple. There are lots of calorie dense vegetarian food that you can turn to without eating a lot of junkfood, milk, or eggs. Nuts and seeds are calorie dense foods. Throw them on salads to get the calorie and nutrient levels up. Legumes (beans, lentils, peanuts) are also calorie dense foods. These foods are common in vegetarian diets. They are packed with nutrients and contain a good amount of calories as well. Whole grains have a good amount of calories. Everyone knows that bread, pasta, rice, couscous, and other grains have a good amount of calories, plus they are important for health, so include these in your diet everyday. Some fruits and vegetables have lots of calories in them. The avocado is a good example of this. One avocado has about 300 calories in it. Use oils, like olive oil on your veggies if you are really concerned about losing weight. It's very easy to maintain your weight if you know what foods to look for. Really, it's just most fruits and vegetables that are light in calories.
- Peanut Butter.
- Im vegan and i 'stop myself from losing too much weight' by eating food. I did lose a bit of weight the first month, but other than that i've stayed the same. Don't worry so much.
- if you stopped being a fleshatarian, you've removed a lot of needless calories from your diet. that's a good thing. eat right and exercise to maintain the weight that your body wants. if you want to be heavier than what you body wants you to be then maybe you might want to continue eating animals with your food. my advice is to let you're body be happy. if you eat correctly (the gifts of the earth) and exercise daily, you will be at your correct weight. you will be lean and strong.
