What is German, vegetarian food like?
I'm leaving for Germany on a foreign exchange in a couple of days and I am vegetarian. What kind of food can I look forward to? Thanks guys, sure, the vegetables are the same. I want to know what sort of vegetarian meals they would prepare for me. And Ruth, I'm part German myself. Please don't make such offensive comments.

- You can get a Donor Veggie style. It's like a gyro I think is what it is called in the states, just tell them no meat. The Germans love their meat sorry love.
- Difficult enterprise as traditional German foods center around a meat course. That said...the Germans have developed quite a vegetarian and vegan culture along with most of Western Europe. Try Quorn products. Quorn is a protien concentrated food product that is like meat but made purely out of high protien vegetable products. Quorn has caught on in Germany and England and yet it is virtually non-existant in America.
- why would there be any difference a carrot a potato cabbage Onion turnip cellery WHAT else WHY would there be anything LESS Everything
- vegetables are the same as here. so is tofu.
- Spaetzle. If all else fails, I'm sure you can hunt down an Italian restaurant. Try HappyCow for a list of vegetarian friendly places to eat in various German cities. I think they have the major cities and towns covered with addresses and phone numbers. It's a great site. http://www.happycow.net/europe/germany/index.html For example, here is a veggie place in Dortmund. http://www.vegetaria.de/
- I think you will get vegetarian dishes in any restaurant by now. From veggie Schnitzel, Knoedel and Spaetzle up to Vegetarian sausages and Veggie Braten, vegetarian "fish" etc... Germany is one of the countries with the largest offer in vegetarian and vegan food, amazing, but true. There are so called Bio-Laeden all over the place and even farmers markets offer vegetarian and ecological products. Most of the things I buy here in Greece, from burgers to different types of tofu and spreads, soy milk, soy cream etc are made in Germany. So I'm sure you can even have a typical Schlachtplatte veggie style. ;) Have a nice journey.
