Is it true that frozen vegetables are healthier than fresh vegetables. Does freezing destroy the cell tissue?

- Freezing preserves the cell tissue.
- Yes because, more often that not, they are actually frozen in the field they are picked from, at the peak of their freshness. You can also find this with some frozen fish as well. Some fish are caught, and frozen right on the boat.
- If you are talking about produce that sits around for days, frozen would be better. But theres nothing better or healthier than something picked from the garden, brought in the house and prepared fresh. Frozen is superior to canned goods because they contain only vegetables, no added liquids and salt.
- I heard that frozen veggies are healthier.
- the deal with frozen veg is that it is frozen fresh. most of the time, by the time we buy "fresh' veg in the market, it has been days or weeks since it was picked. frozen veg is picked at peek and frozen immediately. i am not sure about the cell tissues. i belive that if cooked quickly or steamed, most of the nutritional values are still there. when veg is over cooked, some of the nutrition is now in the water it was cooked in. this is why steaming is good because the nutrition stays in the veg.
- I'm not sure, but I have heard that frozen veggies are lots of times "fresher" and better for you than "fresh" because they are frozen immediately after being picked...makes sense. I believe it is cooking, not freezing, that destroys cells or vitamins/minerals...
- fresh are healther then frozen
- yes frozen is healthier than fresh. freezing helps preserve the nutrients. freezing can only destroy cells of living organisms so it wont destroy vegetables.xxx
- Correct freezing will not deplete vegetable nutrients..nor will canning...nor cooking of fresh veggies..it depends on how it is done and the time that it is done in. Usually frozen is better than canned..fresh is best of course if cooked within a certain time frame..BUT no over cooked.
- Yes, only if it is organic. Usually they freeze it right after they pick it so it slows the "deterioration" process down. And to your second ? Yes and no. When it is frozen it the factories they "flash freeze" it so the ice cyrstals are very small and do not do much damage to the cells. But, once you get it home into a home freezer, it is not a consitatly cold all the time, because your freezer goes through a defrosting stage every so often. So you should not keep anything in you freezer for more then one(1) year, if not air tight.
- Frozen vegetables are only better than imported fresh vegetables sold out of season(for obvious reasons). Otherwise, fresh vegetables are better than frozen.
- yea frozen is healthier
