Fresh Vegetable Recipes

Why do all the grocery stores use WATER to spray all over the fresh vegetables when it spreads germs?

I heard if food sits in water, just like it does at the stores, it causes bacteria...why dont they stop doing this?? it was on the news and showed how it causes bacteria growth!!

  1. What you heard is wrong. Water doesn't spread germs unless there are germs in the water and there aren't any. Municipal water systems sterilize water. There might be some chance of mold, but the produce moves through the store fast enough that it isn't a problem.
  2. i guess they dont want it to dry out more than gems. i bet they want it to look good so we will buy it.they dont care if its gemy
  3. Water keeps the vegetables from drying out and makes them look nicer. If you notice, water is sprayed mostly on green vegetables such as lettuce or cabbage.
  4. I assume it's to make it rot faster so if you don't use it soon enough you have to buy it again.>
  5. just for d eyes of the consumers, to make it more fresh
