How do you make salsa without using any fresh vegetables?
Can you just use tomato sauce and dried spices to make salsa? I am curious because I do not have any tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. on hand but I do have spices and tomato sauce. Does anyone know of any good recipes for this or experience doing this?

- if you have canned whole or diced tomatoes it will work better, just so you have some texture to the salsa. i use 1 can of whole tomatoes with onion, jalapeno, garlic and cilantro. you really can't make good salsa without the cilantro. it adds freshness.
- Sure dont...But I know of a good easy way to make salsa.. 2 jalapeno chiles 2 yellow peppers (kinda a florescent greenish yellow) 1 5oz can tomato sauce couple dashes of garlic salt couple dashes of onion powder 2-3 TBsp water 1-2 pieces of garlic clove (optional) Blend all together in a blender, blend until well chopped and mixed. Pour into bowl and enjoy. Or you can chill it in the fridge for awhile to blend in those flavors. It'll last for about 2 weeks if you keep it sealed in the fridge when not enjoying it. PS...this salsa tastes GREAT and doesnt have cilantro..I hate cilantro.. Also if you have a can of Rotel handy you can just open it up and use it for salsa..
- Well, u can make them with canned vegetables, but dude.. It's NOT THE SAME!! Just go to the damn mexican restaurant and buy some.
- Basically, there are only 3 ingredients. There is canned tomatoes, onions in a jar with water and dried celentro in the spice rack. Cut them all up in pieces and If you have tomato sauce, add part of it if you want it thicker. "There you go!!!!"
- When I don't have time to get to the store and NEED to have salsa, I usually use canned crushed toms and add a can or two of diced toms for more texture. The other ingredients I use are cilantro, lime juice, chopped garlic, cumin, hot sauce, salt, and usually some chili powder, I almost forgot the fresh jalapenos (use canned or jar, if no fresh ones are available). Experiment with the volumes of ingredients to get the taste that pleases you. Enjoy...
- I don't have recipes, but yes, you can use canned tomatoes and dry spices. I'd use dry minced onions rather than powder, use canned or jarred jalapenos or other peppers, and maybe some smoked tomatoes in a can, too, for more flavor. Chipotles (smoked jalapenos) from a can are good, too. I wouldn't use tom sauce, but a petite dice tomato + juice.
