Vegetarians..?
Why is it unhealthy for vegetarians not to eat nuts and beans ?

- I wouldn't say it is unhealthy but it is easier for you to get protein and iron and other important nutrients like omega 3 from Walnuts. With careful planning you could eat a vegan diet without it and be fine.
- Because nuts and beans are a good source of protein - something that lacks in their diet if they don't eat meat
- You don't *have* to eat nuts. But they are really tasty and very good for you. They provide a great source of protein that's low saturated fat and low-cholesterol. They're really good in moderation, one or two servings is the recommended daily limit.
- If they avoid nuts and beans they are missing out on protein and vitamins and minerals (including iron) You can live without them, but they sure do boost your health :-)
- May result in protein deficiency. Large quantities of other legumes may be needed if one were to shun nuts and beans. However, other pulses grown in the Indian sub-continent can be used.
- They are some of the better plant proteins. If you were alergic to them being a vegitarian might not be a great idea.
- It's difficult to get adequate protein otherwise.
- Nuts and beans are good sources of protein. Some nuts (like walnuts) even have omega-3 fatty acids Beans are a good source of iron, also. And if vegetarians don't eat nuts and beans, that really restricts their diet, and not having variety is really unhealthy.
