vegetarians?
to all vegetarians/vegans...do you also find it annoying when people continuously say to you "awww. ur a vegetarian? how do you ever get enough protein?" i find it unbelievably ignorant for people to say that. and when they ask that question...what kind of answer are they expecting? like "ohh. i don't know" or "i'm malnourished" or WHAT? when some people ask that...i think they are just trying to sound smarter than they are. but whatever. what do you think?

- I completely agree. That is the #1 most annoying question ever!!! Like meat is the only known source of protein?? No!!!! How dumb can people be?
- Ha, half of the time I think they just don't get it. But the other half I think they are just curious are maybe care. Your right, it is annoying though.
- I don't think protein is the issue, but there are many things lacking in a vegan diet. We need some animal fats and foods like eggs, grass-fed meat or chicken, and raw, organic dairy are all really good for you, contrary to all we've been taught. I was once a vegetarian and the comments annoyed me, but I started eating omnivorously and feeling so much better that I started becoming one of those annoying people. But I won't say it's a protein issue, it's more about fats soluble minerals and vitamins.
- Exactly. Fact is, most people get way more protein than they need. Even I do, and I'm almost vegan! It also annoys me when people say they feel sorry for me and expect that I must CRAVE meat all the time. Ugh, I hate it!
- what do i think, you ask ? eat some meat
- It depends on how they ask. If it truely is in a curious manner I explain to them. Some people have never met a vegetarian and are curious to ask about my lifestyle but then there are others who when they find out feel threatened. Someone at work noticed I never at meat and though I was poor and offered me a burger. I declined and he insisted. I explained that I was a vegetarian and he immediately got upset and said, "so your one of those crazy people that just has sex all the time and burns down buildings huh? That's stupid." I didn't even bother to expalin but went straight to my supervisor and told him. Needless to say that jerk never spoke to me about it again. I can't believe so many people feel threatened just by the fact that we don't eat meat.
- When people grow up they don't ask those quesstions, just say by eating high protein foods.
- I get that all the time here in the U.S. esp. I was visiting the south! i just tell them "did u know 30-40% of population in India is vegetarian and they r happy and healthy! Eating meat is actually considered bad there!"
- i TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- You should say, "Yes, unfortunately no one told me it was so DANGEROUS. That's why you are only speaking to me in spirit."
- This question often appeas on this site, for some reason the last week has been particularly busy. Maybe they all lack imagination and herd like sheep or something ? I also particularly like the "you need meat to live" statement. So, have i been dead for the last 27 years or sometinhg ? they are such strange narrow minded people . edit: just read the other answers and, what a suprise, Jungle Princess mannaged to get the "we need animal fats" statement in....how predictable you meaty people are.
- I completely agree. They ask that question in order to feel superior to someone else. Their ploy is transparent and I rarely entertain that inquiry. Like you said - are they wanting to hear a response from us such as: I don't get enough protein; Vegetarianism has made me emaciated; You are SO right! There are no other sources of protein besides meat; I'm starving all the time...blah blah blah. They're not original and they're not funny.
- hahaha whenever i go to my aunt's home she tries to force me to eat meat its pretty annoying but i know she does it out of love lol
- i agree with you 100 percent, its startling how clueless people are, i get that from my cousins constantly.
- I'm vegetarian, and I haven't heard that for years, until I started here on Yahoo Answers. If somebody asked me that, I'd say "My wife has a Masters Degree in Nutrition and she has been vegetarian all her life, why don't you ask her? By the way, did you finish high school?" My other come back is: "I go to my doctor reqularly, and have lab work done and at least once a year. My cholesterol is lower than average and every thing else is normal. How do you explain that?"
