Are frozen vegetables as nutritious as fresh vegetables?

Public Comments

  1. not quite. the most nutritious way to eat veggies is raw. I even heard that cutting them in certain ways retains more vitamins, but that's splitting hairs in my book!
  2. In general yes they are. Veggies hardly lose any nutrients in the freezing process. Sometimes frozen is even better than fresh since they are picked and frozen in peak season at the high of their ripeness, while fresh veggies are often either forced in greenhouses, or picked "green" and transported long distances before they get to us. You lose a lot more of the goodness of veggies in long transport, unripe picking, and un-natural ripening than you do in freezing. The only way not to lose anything nutrition-wise is to buy fresh, IN-SEASON, local produce, and use within a couple days of picking.
  3. Very close to it because they are quick frozen.
  4. The processing and freezing of frozen vegetables results in significant losses of micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). Fresh is always best, but frozen veggies are better than junk food if fresh veggies are not readily available.
  5. my garnmas knows it for sure that they do
  6. Yes, frozen vegetables can be just as nutritious as fresh ones because they are picked and frozen right away. Sometimes fresh vegetables loose some of their vitamins during a long transit time or due to less than optimal storage. 7. no because all the nutrients actually "leak out".
  8. For all practical purposes, yes. Frozen veggies are picked at their peak of freshness and ripeness, and flash frozen to protect their nutrients. Just be srue you dont' thaw and refreeze, or overcook. They also have the added benefit of being pre-washed, cut, trimmed, and ready to use!
  9. yes they are... they are usually frozen right away... and taste quite good
  10. not quite.. fresh is always fresh..
