Has your supermarket ever run out of fresh vegetables?
I was wondering, in the USA, is there any supermarket in any city which runs out (I mean, completely) of vegetables or fruits during the winter? So that you have to resort to canned stuff?

- not that i have ever heard of or ran across.
- Not generally, although Wal-Mart did run out in Florida right before Hurricane Jean came thru - no fresh food, no canned food, no water, no batteries....it was really weird!
- Maybe because I live in California I haven't seen something like that happen yet, but I have been to restaurants where they have ran out of food.
- I"ve never seen that happen and I worked in the produce section of a grocery store for a while. Sometimes they may run low, and if there is a recall, like the E.coli problem with fresh spinach, they will remove it and so it's not available, but there is always something fresh available. I will use the canned things when something we might want (say, peaches) aren't in season and so are very expensive. We can almost always get them, but they come from S. America or somewhere, so they are way to costly.
