why my refrigerator is not cold enough to freeze meats and not cold enough for fresh vegetables?

my side by side refrigerator is not cold enough to freeze. the other side is not cold enough to keep the milk and vegetables fresh? i can hear the engine going..what's wrong. could it be the compressor?

1. It's either low on freon, but more likely the outside radiator is so dirty, the air can't cool it. Or both. Use a vacuum cleaner extension to clean it. The radiator is on the back on some, underneath on other fridges.
2. First make sure someone hasnt adjusted the temperature control. If the temerature control is going.. then i would agree with heinz. it may need freon.

4. It certainly could be- or it could simply be the fan. We had a less then yr old fridge with bottom frezzer that slowly stopped working properly in the cooling department because a surge had fried our fan motor. For us this was located behind a panel in the freezer section held in by plastic clips at the corners. The fan and motor cost about 20 bucks total and our disaster continued since the item was still under warrenty the store sent the wrong service manufacture to our home. Because that person who simply was tryingt o fix it even if it wasn't his 'brand' touched the fridge even though he identified the low cost part issue and even fixed it short term the store ended up replacing the entire thing!! Caution for those with warrenties make sure the right brand repairman shows up and if not don't let him touch it! Try replacing the fan- btw we found out if you call with the model most repair shops carry the part in stock you can pick up and replace yourself or it cpsts under 100 bucks to have it replaced just state you only want that item done! Otherwise they may repair other things and stick you with a big bill.

Mine too it's new and we have had it repaired 2 times and may have to again.They said to make sure that i had nothing sitting infront of the inside vent or it will freeze and stop cooling or freeze everything.And they also said if they repair it within 3 times in the same year then we make a 4th call to repair then they have to get us a new one.
7. Depending on the fridge, try cleaing the condenser. It the black wire mesh looking thing on the back or on the bottom of the fridge. if its the bottom, you need a special cleaning tool that can reach under the fridge without turning it on its back. If that doesn't work its probably got a freon leak and you need to call a service tech.
8. there should be a temp.control knob for the refragerator and for the freezer compartments.
9. Pull the frige out and vacuum the coils. If that doesn't work compressor could be on its last leg.
10. Have you "up"~ed the temp buttons. It is summer time!
11. low freon and it could be the compressor. call a fridge guy to take a look.
