What is a good recipe for a hearty vegetable-based side dish, something original to serve twelve people? I need to make a side dish for a pot luck dinner. The last time I made such a dish for the same group of friends I used a recipe with artichokes as the main ingredient. Everyone loved it, but this time I want to try something different. I'm seeking a recipe that will be somewhat original, not predictable like green bean casserole, and will appeal to a wide variety of tastes. The main course will have wild rice, and someone else is bringing a pasta side dish, so I don't really want a recipe that includes another starch. I welcome all suggestions.

So does anyone have a good recipe for it?

Looking For Some New Recipes Using Vegetables Only? I enjoy vegetables and so do my kids. My idea of serving vegetables ends around steaming them and sticking them on the table. Help tweak my Sourdough cornbread stuffing (dressing) side dish recipe? I am thinking of sauteing diced onion, celery in some olive oil with some poultry seasoning. Then adding that to a bowl of cubed and dried sourdough bread, crumbled cornbread pieces, and some of those Ocean Spray Craisins and some vegetable stock. Then I will put the entire mixture into a 9 by 13 inch cake pan and bake it until I think it is ready. What should the ratio be of veggie stock to bread? What else did I miss? Thanks

Gently loosen the skin of the chicken and push the herb mixture under the skin. Season the chicken all over with salt and pepper. Warm the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken broth and scrape any brown bits off the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Add the snap peas and mushrooms. Simmer over low heat until the vegetables are tender and the liquid has reduced by half, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper, if necessary. Remove the chicken from the oven. i would love a good recipe for the rice

It contains dijon, cream, garlic, shallot, shrooms, white wine, s&p. What side dishes will go well with those flavors? Maybe a risotto or a stuffing and some type of vegetable. I found a recipe for a candied acorn squash that sounds great but not sure if that flavor goes with the chicken dish. THANKS FOODIES!
Sauce recipe for a mushroom side dish? BBQ Cookoff Special with Ribs - anyone? We went to a BBQ Cook-off with brisket, and ribs were prepared by all competitors. One of the cooks had a bowl of mushrooms either from the jar or cooked, and covered in a brown kind of runny sauce. The flavor was fantastic. She would not give out recipe. It did not have any other vegetables at all. The ingredients were all liquid and maybe spices. Not thick at all. The color was light carmel of the sauce. Husband thought he smelled Jack Daniels in it - but I don't know. Anyone know this recipe? or been to a cook off and send this served and know what it is called? This was served as side dish - NOT on the meat.
side dish for portabello stroganoff???? ok so i am making a portabello mushroom stroganoff on wednesday night for my boyfriend and a few friends and i am trying to find a good recipe to make as a side dish. it has to be a vegetarian dish and not too complicated, i am a relatively good cook, however we are in college and i dont have a lot of money for ingredients. i dont want to do a potato dish because that is the same bland color as the stroganoff, plus it is a starch and i am serving it over noodles. so a vegetable would be preferred. i also need something not too heavy because the dish is pretty rich. they are picky eaters too, so i cant make spinach, carrots, or cauliflour. any good recipes would really be appreciated! thank you!

Recipe for Korean Vegetable Pancakes? When we were in Seoul, we would receive as a side dish these pancakes. We never could learn the name of them or any of the specific ingredients. The pancakes were thin and dense -- kinda' crepe-like. Not very large; maybe as round as a saucer. The main vegetable, I *thought* was a scallion in long, thin strips. Oh! And the pancakes were served warm and were not fried, crispy. Does anyone know what dish this is? Is there a recipe? I've google'd to no avail. I really appreciate your help with this! All the best -- Cindy

Chicken and Broccoli (Chinese Food)? Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone had the recipe for the Chicken with Broccoli dish found in many Chinese(-American) restaurants. In particular, does anyone know how to make the sauce it is served in? We like the chicken a lot but not so much the broccoli, and it'd be nice to be able to leave it out (of course substituting our own vegetable sides to stay healthy!) Thanks! Ambuoroko
Quick, easy & HEALTHY dinner ideas? I am looking for some ideas on what to make for dinner for my family. I'm tired of making the same things (spaghetti, salmon, chicken) and need some new ideas. Here's the catch: They have to be healthy! Oh and not have a whole crapload of ingredients. I hate recipes that have you add a pinch of 5 things, half a teaspoon of this, half a tablespoon of that, then you end up spending 15$ on spices you'll never use again! Crock pot recipes are my favorite, so those would be awesome. I'd also really really like them to be somewhat kid friendly, as I have a 3 and nearly 2 year old that have to eat as well. Also what are some healthy alternatives for side dishes? We use macaroni a lot, but I hate to as it's so high in fat and calories. Our other sides are usually some sort of potatoes (not loaded in butter) and steamed vegetables. Thanks so much!
Cooking Dinner for a group... on a budget? I am a freshman in college this year and my friends and I all miss dinner at home. I love to cook so two of us decided to get together and make full dinners every week for 8-10 people. I can cook almost anything so the simplicity of the recipe is not an issue. However, we are in college and so I need an idea for a meal that is around $50, as each person can only afford about $5 a week. I have done this for two weeks and made dishes like ravioli, stuffed mushrooms, fruit salads, and cooked squash and zuccini medlies. We all love vegetables, meat, and enjoy having sides, a main dish and a dessert. We set the table with a tablecloth and everything and it is tons of fun. I've done variations of pasta dishes two weeks in a row so this week I was searching for something different or a little more flavorful, but any ideas will help! Thank you so much...
What goes well with breakfast casserole? I want to do a very special breakfast tomorrow. (We've had a really bad time lately with several family members, so we just need a little extra TLC for ourselves.) Found this wonderful-sounding recipe for breakfast casserole, but I don't know what would go well on the side. (Blueberry muffins? Garlic cheddar cheese grits? Fruit?) Since all we usually do is cereal or toast, I'm not sure what would go well with this. Suggestions? Thanks for your help. Charleston Breakfast Casserole Submitted by: Scott M. Best way to clean vegetables? Years ago I bought a Mr. JuiceMan. One of the booklets that came with the juicer had a recipe for cleaning vegetables, hydrochloric acid. At that period of time, there were two commercial cleaners on the market, both toxic. JuiceMan recipe: In a double sink of water, combine 3tbl. of salt and the juice from one half of a lemon in one side of sinks, fresh water in the other sink. I don't have a double sink so I use two tubs. 2.5 min. max on leaf veggies then rinse, 5min max with skinned veggies. Waxed veggies, use gloves, it's hell getting the wax off your hands. It didn't take long to figure out keeping lemons around was a pain. I converted the recipe somewhat. I use one half teaspoon of citric acid instead of one half lemon. I can only assume that I'm getting the same results, can anyone tell me different. Citric Acid removes soap scum. Use it in the shower, it will leave hair and body really soft. Use it to rinse dishes to remove soap; half teaspoon per quart. Any comments?

I need a simple, inexpensive, delicious recipe for dinner? Preferrably using ingredients that are most likely to already be on hand. I need a main dish, but I am definately open to side dishes. I am trying to build up a recipe book with delicious, simplistic recipes. We love all vegetables except for most beans, and also most meats. Oh! Don't leave out the dessert ideas! :) Some of the websites I have used (and still use) are www.kraftfoods.com, and www.allrecipes.com.
Do you know of any nice recipes to cook for Thanksgiving? Each year my family and I host Thanksgiving at our house. We get together everyone from both sides of the family and have a nice dinner. I was wondering if you could suggest some nice recipes, dishes or ways to prepare turkey. So far we're definitely making Turkey...obviously, but we'd like some suggestions as to how to prepare it; as mentioned above. We're making vegetable chowder, mashed potatoes & gravy/regular potatoes, assorted (cooked and uncooked) vegetables. Any other suggestions? Thanks! xXo Thanks, guys! Most likely I'm going to be making every dish mentioned :D I've got a large family. xXo

Nothing that takes away from the lobster as the main course though. Anyone have any good side dishes they use with lobster? I'm looking for a starch, a vegetable, and a good salad (preferably fruit.. looking for fruit that goes good with lobster) I'm also open to new recipes. A butter sauce recipe would help! Thanks :-)
